ジンバブエの医師としてキャリアをスタートし、現在は途上国の医療を支える企業を支援する、日本の公益社団法人でシニアディレクターとして働いています。

幼少期の農村での経験

私は農村部で過ごしましたが、幸運なことに家族に経済的な余裕があり、都市部にも家を持つことができ、良い学校に通う機会を得ました。ほぼ毎週末、私たちは農村にある農場に帰っていたため、農村部の学校に通う友人と遊んでいました。

 

彼らの中には私より賢い人もいましたが、経済的要因で、良い学習環境で勉強することはできていませんでした。結果として、大人になった彼らは安定した収入を得られる仕事に就くことができていませんでした。

 

私は良い小学校、そして中学校に通い、後に大学に進学して医師になることができました。しかし、私の家族や友人たちには同じ機会がありませんでした。

 

偶然の出会いが行動のきっかけに

 

医師として働いている中でも、農村部の子どもたちを助け、同じ機会を与えたいという夢を常に持っていました。しかし、国外で働き始めたため、戻って何かを始める時間がありませんでした。

 

そんな時、偶然、町田市の古民家で駿介に出会いました。ジンバブエで幼少期を過ごした日本人が、その頃からこの夢を持ち続けていることに非常に感銘を受けました。

 

それが私を触発し、「今始めなければならない」と考えるようになりました。そこで、私たちは一緒に何ができるかを話し合い始めました。また、私たちをつなげてくれた石川さんとも話をし、彼もこのプロジェクトに参加したいと話してくれました。

 

次世代へ架ける橋

プロジェクトを進める中、駿介や彼の兄弟のような若者たちが主体的に両親やコミュニティ、友人たちを巻き込むことに成功している姿に、本当に心を動かされました。

 

このような精神を持つ若者たちを見るのは、とても励みになります。私たちが試みているのは、モデルケースの立ち上げです。私のように海外で働くジンバブエ人が、実際に母国に貢献できることを示したいのです。

 

海外に住むジンバブエ人の多くは、友人やネットワークを動員して故郷を支援し、他の人々にも同じ機会を提供することができます。このプロジェクトを成功させるため、皆様のご支援をお待ちしております。

 

From Rural Roots to Global Dreams: A  Journey Behind Yume Iziya

The Reality of Rural Education

Part of my life was spent in the village where the school was, but we were lucky to find a house in town, so I had the opportunity to attend a good school. However, almost every weekend, we would go to the farm, so I had family and friends who went to school in rural areas. Some of them were probably smarter than me, but they didn't have the same opportunities. They didn't go to the good schools, and as a result, they didn't do as well as I did. I was able to attend a good primary school, then a secondary school, and later go to university and become a doctor. But my friends and family didn't have the same access, so they didn't make it.

A Chance Encounter Sparks Action

These are the people I grew up with, and I've always had the dream of doing something to help rural kids, and giving them the same opportunities. However, because I started working outside the country, I didn't have the time to go back and start something. Then, by chance, I met Shunsuke. I was really impressed that a Japanese person, even as a little boy, had this dream and still carried it with him. That inspired me and motivated me to think, "I need to start this now." That's when we began discussing what we could do together. We also spoke with Mr. Ishikawa, who told us that he had visited Zimbabwe on his honeymoon and wanted to be part of this project.

Building a Bridge for Future Generations

What really moved me was seeing young people like Shunsuke and his brother taking the lead, managing to convince their parents, community, and friends to get involved. It's really inspiring to see young people with this kind of spirit. So, what we're trying to do is launch a pilot project. We want to demonstrate how people like me — Zimbabweans who have made it in life — can actually contribute to the country. There are many Zimbabweans living abroad who can mobilize their friends and networks to help fellow Zimbabweans, so that others can have the same opportunities. This is just a demonstration, and we look forward to your support so that we can make this work.
