From Tanba Sasayama to the future!
Preserving and passing on the charm and value of traditional photographic techniques!

The Center for Slow Photography, a general incorporated association, is led by photographer Koichiro Kurita in Tambasasasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, to create works of art using a classic technique invented in the 19th century.

The project involves building a giant camera, loading it on a light truck and driving around the Tamba-Sasayama area, photographing buildings and cultural heritage that have remained since the late Edo period and the nature that nurtured them, using calotype (a technique for making paper negatives), the origin of photography in the UK during the same period, to produce albumen prints and other products.

The mission of the project is to introduce the various printing techniques that existed in the early days of photography and to pass on their appeal and cultural value to the next generation.

The science room of a former elementary school will be reborn as a photographic darkroom!

Slow-Photography Center has been operating in FOTOZUMI (Kurita's studio and gallery) on the second floor of a former elementary school in Fukuzumi, Tamba-Sasayama, and will now rent the former science lab to build a new photo darkroom and workspace. As a base for art photography production, we aim to create a comprehensive art community through contributions to the local community and domestic and international exchanges.
