About our project "Hope for mother Lanka"

Hello, I'm Chandima Lakmalie from Srilanka, working at Ashinaga Ikueikai in Japan. I'm also the organizer of the project "Hope for mother Lanka".
 

 

Hope for mother Lanka is an international collaborative project supporting children from Batticaloa area in Srilanka who experienced Easter Sunday attacked at the Zion Church on April 21st, 2019.

Hope for mother Lanka is organized by Sarvodaya Women's Movement in Sri Lanka and Ashinaga Foundation in Japan. Through our project, we hope to provide emotional healing care for traumatized kids who faced the blast, were injured by the blast or lost parents, siblings, and friends through the blast.

 

Batticaloa Zion church has informed us that there are 170 kids they have recognized who need healing care support. Hope for Mother Lanka has two primary objectives:
1．to execute an emotional care program for children affected by trauma
2．to conduct a professional development workshop for staff in Sri Lanka.

 

We hope that this project will enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of youth in various communities to promote peace-building, whilst instilling a self-sustaining model of emotional support led by local staff.

 

Additionally, this program will have long-term effects like minimizing discrimination through the cultivation of empathy and we will also identify strategies to ensure the emotional welfare of children is not compromised.

 

Ashinaga Foundation has agreed to provide the expertise in supporting children, and through collaboration with Sarvodaya Women’s Movement, we hope to extend our care program to affected areas in Colombo and Batticaloa.
