▼Introduction 

 

Hello, everyone.  My name is Nagashima Masahiro, and I come from Kyoto in Japan.

First, I want to thank everyone for coming to this page.  It truly means a lot to us.  I hope that you can take the time to read through the whole page.

 

　We currently live together with 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  From the left, we have Pritz, Bisco and Fran.  We are so lucky to be with them, as they bring us joy and happiness every day.  　

　However, today I want to write to you about Pritz.

 

    　

 

　Pritz is our precious 9 year (and 3 months) old girl.  I personally had no experience with dogs before my wife managed to pursue me to get one.  Pritz became a member of our family when she was 5 months old.  When she first came to our house, she was scared by everything and everyone.  She didn’t want to go to different rooms, nor was she particularly attached to me.  But before we knew it, she would happily go on walks and trips in the car, and she would never leave our sides.

 

　Sadly, 1 year ago, we noticed that she was having troubles when walking and was getting more tired than usual. We took her to the vet but did not find any problems of immediate danger. So we took her home with a prescription of supplements and medicine that would help her.

 

　 After that, she did not seem to be bothered by anything special, and she lived her life normally without any big problems. That was until recently, when she suddenly started having problems breathing. We quickly took her to the vet where they found out that her heart was being enlarged (cardiomegaly). She was then diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation.

 

▼Why did I go to Crowdfunding? 

 

　We were told by the doctors that with no treatment, she would have less than half a year left to live and that it could get worse any moment.

 

　As you can see in the picture of Pritz above, her fur is getting thinner and her body is getting weaker and weaker. and I feel so bad for letting her down and making her go through pain every day. We were told that there is an 85% chance of fully recovery if we operate and that she would return to her cheerful and lively self if we treated her carefully. That being said, the surgery itself is extremely expensive, and while I know that we ask for a lot, we really want to give her the surgery.

 

　Until the surgery, we were giving her 7 different medicines together with her food, Royal Canine's "Vets plan". But it seemed like the medicine made her stomach looser, so we change the food brand to Hill's.

 

　We are currently bringing her to the vet once a week for examination and looking carefully at the numbers so we can prepare her for the surgery.

 

　The doctors explained the surgery to us while using the diagram above.

 

　The tendon cord, which allows the valve to close and open, has been either stretched or torn, and it seems that some blood is flowing backwards. This causes both ascites and pulmonary edema. Normally, this would be lethal for any dog, but the body seems to have punctured the left atrium in order to survive. It is a miracle.

 

　Normal medical treatment has reached its limits, and the only thing we can do is to fix her Mitral valve through surgery.

 

　While we are giving her lots of medicine, the body is paying the price for it. For example, She goes to the toilet more frequently because of it. While we managed to reduce the toll on the heart as much as possible, the kidneys are getting worse.

　The paper above is from the most recent examination. You can see on the top that it cost 65,878 jpy (500 usd). The tests and hospital visits alone are proving to be more expensive than we thought, and it is only going to cost more as we prepare for the surgery with more tests and treatment. While we would love to be able to save up money for this, time waits for no one, and we need to be able to make sure the heart is not getting any bigger than it currently is.

 

　The truth is that Pritz's condition is not looking good. The doctor said that they would monitor the situation closely and operate as soon as possible. While their schedule is already tight enough as it is, they were able to put me in an emergency slot around May~June.

 

▼Crowdfunding Contents 

 

  To put it short, Our dog, Pritz, is going to have an heart valve reconstruction surgery. We want to see our dog happily walking normally again. We want her to have a beautiful shiny coat of fur. We want to go on more trips and see beautiful scenery with her. But more than anything, We want her to be able to live her life with as little pain as possible.

 

　All money gathered from this crowdfund will be used for the surgery, hospital visits/examinations and medicine.

 

　・Surgery: 1 300 000 jpy (10 000 usd)

　・Hospital visits/Examinations: 300 000 jpy (2 300 usd)

　・READYFOR fee: 171 600 jpy (1 300 usd)

 

　The surgery is scheduled around June at Kinki Animal Clinic.

 

　The news about the surgery was sudden, and we were only able to prepare 400 000 jpy (3 000 usd) ourselves. Please, We ask for your help to save our girl. She means everything to us, and every donation brings us one step closer to her recovery.

 

　Please note that If our girl Pritz does not make it before the surgery, we will use the donations towards the accumulated medical treatment costs.

 

▼Project goals and vision.

 

　Our precious dog, Pritz, is 9 years old. We are currently giving her lots of medicine. While she is fighting everyday, she can return to her healthy self if we give her a surgery.

 

　

 

　Here is a picture of her and her siblings while she was still healthy and lively.We want her to have her beautiful color back. We want her to be able to go on long walks again. We want to take her on trips in the car again. Bust most of all, we want her to be able to spend the rest of her life as our healthy little baby.

 

　As for crowdfunding awards, I am very sorry that I am not able to provide something worthy of your money. When Pritz gets better, we will send out mail to everyone and post progression posts on different SNS so that you can see how she is doing. For some of the rewards, we will also send out small items, such as post cards and stickers.

Project Summary and Use of Funds Raised 

 

　Until the completion date (Project end date) we will provide Pritz with care and do everything we can to prevent the disease from worsening. All funds will be used to cover surgery costs, examinations and hospital visits. If Pritz does not make it before the project is completed, your support will be used to cover the accumulated medication and examination fees.

 

Risks and Challenges 

 

　If the crowdfund does not reach its final goal, we will do everything we can to pay the rest.

 

　We will give our personal thanks to you through mail. We will also send you pictures and videos of Pritz after her surgery.
