「海は広いな大きいな」。

子どものころ日本から、そして大学生になってカリフォルニアの海岸から眺めた太平洋は、
たしかに広くて大きかった。

「泰平」な海がどれほど放射性物質を飲み込まされてきたか、意識するのはよほど後の
ことだった。
汚された海を頼りにする生き物の数は計り知れない。

いのちの冒涜である海洋投棄は始まってしまった。

それでも止めようとする人たちが立ち上がっている。

海を守る決意がいつまでも海と同じく広く、大きくあってほしい。

The sea, first home to life. We’ve abused it time and again, assuming forgiveness, even after the incalculable devastation of atmospheric nuclear testing. Now Tepco is needlessly adding the fruits of its negligence to the already unfairly distributed burden of radioactivity—insulting our intelligence along the way by forbidding use of “contaminated water” as scientifically inaccurate. Yet, citizens from many walks of life have stood up, refusing to accept this as an inexorable process. They make visible our hope, for the earth and fellow living things.
