本件も開始当初はなかなかご支援が集まらず、プロジェクト達成を諦めかけた時もありました。

At the beginning of this project, it was difficult to get support and there were times when we almost gave up on achieving the project.
Even so, we continued to send out messages, and thanks to your cooperation in spreading the word, we have been able to receive support from so many people.

私は青年海外協力隊の隊員としてブルキナファソで2年間暮らしました。今から11年前のことです。ブルキナべ（ブルキナファソ 人）は、アフリカの他の国に比べても素朴で温厚、真面目な人たち。そして親切でした。自分たちが豊かでなくても「あなたもどうぞ」とごはんを分けてくれる人たちでした。

私はこれを読んで、当時ブルキナファソのバス停でたまたま知り合った人を思い出しました。
地方から首都ワガドゥグへ向かう長距離バスの停留所。そこに出発を待つ20歳くらいの男性と10歳くらいの女の子の2人連れ。
挨拶から会話が始まりました。
聞くと、少女は彼の姪で、地元の村で早期結婚させられそうになり、それを知った青年が早期結婚から守るため首都へ連れて行くことにしたと。
彼らのその後は知りません。でも忘れていません。

I lived in Burkina Faso for two years as a member of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers. It was 11 years ago. Burkinabè (Burkina Faso people) are simple, warm, and serious compared to other countries in Africa. And they are kind. Even if they are not rich, they share their food with us, saying, "You can have some too”.

Have you read the purpose and background of this project written by Mr. Lompo? Why is it necessary to educate girls?

When I read this, I remembered a person I happened to meet at a bus stop in Burkina Faso.
It was a bus stop for a long-distance bus from a rural area to the capital, Ouagadougou. There were two people there, a man of about 20 years old and a girl of about 10 years old, waiting to leave.
The conversation started with a greeting.
He told me that the girl was his niece and that she was about to be forced into an early marriage in the local village, and that the young man had heard about it and decided to take her to the capital to protect her from early marriage.
I don't know what happened to them. But I haven't forgotten.
