Sospeter（図書館を建設しようとしているNGOのトップの人）からMaruruiにおける教育事業への思いを綴った資料を受け取ったので、今日はそれを紹介します。

デイケアセンター（保育所）と図書館が紹介されていますが、以前書いた通り現在デイケアセンターのみスタートしています。

Education Program

Strategic Objective: To promote information dissemination and education among the youth and children in Marurui Jua Kali slums.  
Proposed Project: MUYOG has set to put in place a community learning and empowerment centre in Marurui Jua kali slums that will seek to promote education among the children and adults. The proposed project will ensure the establishment of a day care centre for 1-3yrs children, a community library, and on a long-term perspective a feeding program and a community/village polytechnic.
 

1. Daycare centre
Problem Statement: Many children in Marurui have found themselves entangled with the task of babysitting as well as other home chores when they are meant to be in school studying. More often, they play the role of a house maid as their parents go out to fend for the family. As such, many children who should be in school studying are denied their right to education.   
MUYOG Intervention: It is anticipated that through the project, parents will find it convenient to drop their young children at the centre as opposed to having the other siblings withdraw from school to baby sit the little one. This move will go a long way in ensuring the target group (children) continues with their studies at ease. 

2. Community Library:
Problem Statement:  In many urban slums, finding a spacious house which can comfortably accommodate a nuclear family is rare.  A good number of families in Marurui slums live in a single room (10ft by 10ft) or a double room (20ft by 10ft) for those who are privileged. The said room is a home for 5min to 11mix family members and serves as a kitchen, sitting room, bedroom, study room and a business premise for those who run small kiosks. Borrowing from this reality, it is not without daunting challenges for children to carry out evening studies at ease.  These notwithstanding, many children do not get an opportunity to enjoy parental guidance as they undertake evening studies since the parent (s) is entangled in other home chores or is illiterate.
MUYOG Intervention: The proposed community library is expected to come in handy in:  1) providing ample space for children to undertake evening studies and during school vacation. 2) Making available learning materials and providing an avenue in which volunteer teachers can offer a helping hand to the students. 3) Offering adult education to interested parents and youth.
