Cloud Funding Requested for
Ensuring Permanent Preservation of 
NITOBE Memorial Museum and Its Building

Request Period to be ended on December 13th (Fri), 11.00 pm

 

The fund will be spent for making sure for the spirit of BUSHIDO : The Soul of Japan (see Note 1 below) and mind of Japan to be brought down to future generations for the following purpose:

1. Better environment equipment more suitable for preservation and utilization of cultural asset and treasure (See Note 2 below) and
2.Repair and renovation of NITOBE Memorial Museum (NMM) building required for permanent preservation as its original style and structure. 

 

NMM building, known as Ikuta Building, is of a special significance that it was built by Tsutomu Ikuta, Architect having deep understanding of BUSHIDO or the soul of Japan as described by Inazo Nitobe.

 

In 2025 NMH is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its establishment and the 60th anniversary of IKUTA building.  For 50 year in history, NMM used to be 100% funded and managed by Towada City but now HMM needs to have a new start independently of the City funding,  Your support will be inevitable for NMH to have a promising start of a good success in future NMM.

 

Note 1   “BUSHIDO : The Soul of Japan” was written by Inazo NITOBE originally in English and was published in USA in 1900.  The book well introduces to the world outside a home of Japanese spirit or BUSHIDO which has become the heart and soul of Japanese moral fiber in comparison with the western philosophy.  “BUSHIDO : The Soul of Japan” has been translated into thirty or more different languages. 
In addition Inazo Nitobe is well known as a person of thought leadership as well as one of the first PhD holders in Agriculture in Japan and also granted PhD in law.  The three generations of NITOBE family including Inazo continued to highly contribute to the local development around area where NMM is located.

 

Note 2   The cultural asset and treasure to be better preserved include :
Personal memento of Inazo NITOBE as well as his ancestors such as suits of armor
Exhibitions related to the history of development of Towada City implemented by the NITOBE family
Private installation of NITOBE LIBRARY of the possession of approximately 7,000 books (set up in 1925)
