Crowdfunding Campaign“Tadaima（Coming Home to）Tsukuba”
to Be Launched 
 

In 2023, the University of Tsukuba celebrates its 50th anniversary since it was re-establised in Tsukuba and 151st anniversary since its precusor Normal School was estabilished in Tokyo. On this special occasion, we are launching the“Tadaima 
(Coming Home to) Tsukuba Project”to increase financial support for students by 
calling for alumni’s donations and establishing the cycle of benefits across 
generations through crowdfunding.

 

It is a project to develop a greater alumni network as we provide a platform for 
alumni to“chip in”for (financially help) Tsukuba students by way of sharing 
memories at Tsukuba across generations.

The password is“Tadaima Tsukuba.”

We hope it will provide an occasion for the alumni of the University of Tsukuba tothink of the alma mater and come back home to Tsukuba. We look forward to hearing you say“Tadaima!”

What is the Tadaima Tsukuba Project?

Since its inception, the University of Tsukuba has modeled itself on leading 
universities in Europe and the United States to provide a world-class environment for its students. This has been made possible by our financial supporters 
especially our alumni. Meanwhile, today’s society is changing faster and more 
drastically than ever.
 

In the next 50 years, we want to continue providing the learning environment that is ahead of its time. By sharing this ideal with you, we want to transform the 
exisiting university network into something bigger and stronger. With this in 
mind, we are launching the“Tadaima Tsukuba Project" in the year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University.

In this project, we treat your support as“sashiire”- a surprise delivery of your
“gift" - to your alma mater. Alumni come back to the University of Tsukuba with 
their sashiire. The students, who receive the sashiire that supports and enriches 
their campus life, will go on to follow in the footsteps of alumni and take on new 
challenges in the outside world. Years later, it will be their turn to come home 
to the alma mater with the sashiire of their own. We’d like to build such“cycle of tadaima" for the next 50 years.

We hope that all of our alumni will join us in designing the future of our 
university together and check back on the students who are following in their 
footsteps.

Sashiire (Gifts): How Your Donations Are Spent

Your sashiire will be used to improve and create a fulfilling learning environment for the students over the next 50 years.

We ran a survey prior to the launch of this project and asked current students the following question:

“If you could decide how donations can be spent for the University of Tsukuba, what would you spend the money on?”

By listening to the real voices of the students, we found clues to what the 
University of Tsukuba should be doing in the future.
 

We will further look into the specific use of the funds depending on the amount of money raised, and we will make sure to use the funds to leave a positive impact on the next 50 years based on these real voices. Of course, we will report back to 
you as well.

 

The 50-Year History of the University of Tsukuba

The University of Tsukuba has its roots in the Normal School, which was 
established as one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Japan. The 
mission of the University is“to create knowledge to design the society of the 
future.”Based on this philosophy, we have continued to take on challenges for the benefit of our students and for the development of society without being 
constrained by existing frameworks.
 

As a result, over the past 50 years, we have been able to help cultivate top 
talent in every sector of society - including academia, sports, art, and industry. Accordingly, our alumni have achieved success in their respective fields. It is 
our pride and greatest asset that we have been blessed with so many wonderful 
graduates.
 

Next 50: Going for the Gold

In 2020, the University was selected as a“Designated National University 
Corporation" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan. This is a sign of recognition that the University has the 
capacity to develop world-class education and research on the cutting edge. We 
will continue to take on further challenges to live up to the expectations as a 
world-class university and a leader among Japanese institutions. 

Having said that, in designing the next 50 years together, it is vital for us to 
consolidate our alumni relations and establish the aforementioned cycle of 
benefits across generations. 

The students who will shape the next generation need an environment in which they can realize and demonstrate their talents. We need your help to create a 
university filled with possibilities, where everyone can freely envision their 
future.

In order to continue our effort to be the top university in the world and the alma 
mater that students and alumni can be proud of, your sashiire will be very much 
needed and appreicated. We look forward to designing the future, together!
