We at BnA are creating a new and exciting art hotel project in Koenji, a buzzing, wacky part of town known for its underground music scene, cheap eats, and funky local art.

 

WHAT is BnA? Short for Bed & Art, our concept is an art gallery that travellers can sleep in. While operating regular rooms on airbnb, we encountered a large number of foreign guests asking for recommendations for places to see Japanese street and modern art. For a country that takes prides in its creativity, there is a dearth of easily accessible sights and venues for foreign visitors to experience modern Japanese art. Our solution? Team up with up-and-coming local artists to design, paint, and curate one-of-a-kind art hotel rooms. We think it’s worth mentioning that the artists involved take a direct cut from the revenues generated, so by staying in a particular room, guests become patrons of their favorite artist.

 

 

KOENJI follows two very successful BnA rooms in Ikebukuro and Kyoto, where we have received excellent reviews from satisfied guests and positive press from foreign media. Now, we’re ready for something bigger.

 

Rather than confine ourselves to one building, we plan to make the entire town our hotel. Guests can check-in at the center bar, located just steps away from Koenji train station, then head to their rooms spread throughout the area, stopping into friendly bars and tasty eateries along the way. Each room will be curated by a different local artist, so repeat guests will never stay in the same room twice!

 

 

We’re currently constructing the center building, comprised of a bar/front desk, two hotel rooms, an art gallery/event space, and a rooftop lounge, with plans to branch out and open up to forty rooms in the area.

 

 

HERE’S WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP.

 

Our target opening date is fast approaching. We’ve kept costs as low as humanly possible with DIY construction and design, but to make this project hugely successful, we require funding. The money raised will go toward planning and adding hotel rooms, approaching artists, and hiring staff.
