We are excited to launch our next item from the curated collection: Vol.02 – the chino trouser. Originally created for military use, chino trousers have become a staple to everyday fashion; at some point in your life, you have slipped on a pair, or have seen it being worn. Here at 27, it is our goal to create the very best version of the iconic and basic, chinos.

The Chino Trouser
Due to its durability, “chino cloth,” made out of raw cotton twill, became the material widely used for military uniforms in the 19^th century. It has since been integrated into civilian apparel, and in today’s street fashion, we see chinos worn as widely as denim jeans.  To make the absolute best pair, our team at 27 looked into getting the best manufacturer for the job, using the best material for the pants. 

1. The Manufacturer 
Chinos are often manufactured out of factories catered towards casual wear. But for our curated project, we have collaborated with a Japanese manufacturer specializing in making dress pants for over 70 years. Their craftsmanship is apparent throughout the entirety of the manufacturing process, from cutting, pressing, and sewing. The result: a pair of chinos with a suit-like finish and attention to detail. 

The bunching of material at the crotch seam in particular can break the silhouette of the pants. The difference between a casual line and a dress-pants manufacturer is the attention to detail in this regard.  Our manufacturers have specialized machines for sewing the hip-line for optimal posterior shape. We have studied the stitching and finishing details unique to military wear and incorporated it into our design. The waistline will have an adjustable cinch belt, so the trousers can be worn for many years to come. 

2. The Material 
We will use an original fabric that is 100% cotton with a natural sheen. The material is breathable, with a dry feel to the skin and without the stiffness of a traditional chino trouser. We will also be using fabric as reinforcement material for the pocket mouth, instead of the widely used paper in order to keep the integrity and shape of the pocket throughout the years. To create the iconic chinos, we have considered all aspects of style (dress or casual, cultural identity, age group, and gender) when deciding the minutest of details - down to the thread, buttons, and inner-lining material. Simplicity is in the details.
