[English Page] A Film on the Subject of Radiation Exposure
Third Film "X Years Later" to be Screened in the United States to Address the Issue of Radiation Exposure!
HIDEAKI ITO, Film Director and Director of TV

Keeping up with the radiation contamination problem
Question 1
Radioactive materials have been falling on the Japanese islands for decades
Thank you for visiting this page. My name is HIDEAKI ITO, director of Nankai Broadcasting Company, a local television station in Ehime Prefecture. This year is the seventeenth year that I have been reporting on the world's greatest environmental destruction, the problem of radioactive contamination. When I was a high school student, I visited the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima. Since that time, I have been very interested in radiation.
I think some of you may think, "What is this radiation problem?" It's a "radiation has been falling on you" problem. But it is also a mysterious problem that most people don't know about, despite the fact that it is said to be the world's biggest environmental disaster.

This figure is from the Meteorological Research Institute, a Japanese government agency. The Meteorological Research Institute has been measuring the radioactive materials falling on the Japanese islands since 1957. The highest reading was recorded in 2011 after the Fukushima nuclear accident, but the next highest reading was in 1963, and from the 1950s to 1965.
How did this radioactive material come down?
It is the radioactive material from the nuclear tests that was carried by the wind. Some people may say, "I don't believe it. But this is an obvious fact. And if you are healthy, you might think, "Well, it didn't have any effect when it fell. But is this really the case?
In fact, the effects of this FALLOUT have not been tested.
Question 2
A hypocenter on the tuna fishing grounds?
There is a serious problem for the Japanese.
Starting in 1946, seventeen years of nuclear tests were conducted in tuna fishing grounds.
Surprisingly, there have been more than 100. And even as the tests were taking place, the tuna fishermen were calmly fishing for tuna. Because of the close proximity of the tuna fishing, I have interviewed more than 100 tuna boat survivors and bereaved families, most of whom have witnessed mushroom clouds and explosions, been exposed to ashes of death, and experienced radiation testing.
Tuna caught in the vicinity of the explosion was landed without any further incident. However, the crew members who were exposed to radiation and the people who ate the tuna have never been investigated and nothing has been found out. On the contrary, half a century has passed since the incident. On the contrary, half a century has passed since the incident, and the Japanese government has concluded once again that the incident "does not have any effect on the health".
From Broadcast to Project
I am convinced that there was a significant impact on the human body, considering that radioactive material has been falling on the Japanese islands for decades and that more than 100 nuclear tests were conducted in the tuna fishing grounds. That's why we have been interviewing and broadcasting the tuna boat crew and their families for 17 years to tell the truth.
However, in the course of my reporting, I have come to believe that one-sided reporting alone may not lead to an understanding of the incident. I think I should tell the story to many people by myself.
This is not just a film screening, but as a project we wanted to let more people know about this issue and take action together. I began to think that if more people were interested in this issue, the world's biggest environmental disaster, the problem of radiation, could be clarified a little bit.
Movies as an action tool
In 2012, I produced a film. Video is an effective tool to convey facts. I wanted people to watch the film to know the facts and then talk to them. That's what we wanted to do. The film was shown in about 300 locations, and a lot of people were able to know the facts.
When I talked to people at the screenings, they listened intently after watching the film. And even after the talk was over, people lined up to talk to me. I felt a response that I didn't get from broadcasting.

And in 2021, to the screening activities in the United States
I decide to produce a third film next year.
I have been doing "Screening and Talking" in Japan. I would like to do the same thing in the United States, a country that produce and own nuclear weapons. If we don't tell the truth, not only in Japan but also in other countries that have nuclear weapons, the radiation problem will not be solved.
The United States has even more radioactive fallout than the Japanese islands.
And I want the American people to know that from the very beginning, the U.S. continued to conduct nuclear tests knowing that their own people would be exposed to radiation. And I want them to think about nuclear weapons again.

This chart, produced by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the agency responsible for the nuclear tests, shows the fallout from six hydrogen tests conducted between March and May 1954.
How did they measure it? Some of you may ask the simple question, "What is the number of measurement points?"
The fact is that the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission had more than 100 measurement points around the world in 1952, at least, before it conducted nuclear tests.
In other words, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission conducted more than 100 nuclear tests without informing the American people of the fact that they knew they were being exposed to radiation.
I want the American people to know that fact. You, your family, relatives and friends are contaminated by the development of nuclear weapons. I want them to think about whether they should continue to have the nuclear weapons they have built in exchange for their health.
Prospects for the "FALLOUT?" Project
The film "X Years After Radiation 3" (tentative title) will be based on the 55-minute NNN Document '20 "Christmas Song" broadcast on NTV, a Japanese broadcasting company in May this year.
The Christmas Song depicts the damage caused by fishermen in their teens and twenties who were exposed to radiation near the nuclear test site conducted by the United Kingdom, and British soldiers in their teens and twenties, known as Atomic Soldiers, who participated in the nuclear tests and exposed by the test.
The program won the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters of Japan Award for Excellence in Reporting this year.

Production of the film shimasu start next January and is expected to be completed in summer 2021, including English translation.
The film will be screened in the United States in the fall of 2021. I'm hoping to start screening the film from New York and Bosten in the United States in 2014, and we are building a network in the United States. I would like to expand this activities by promoting our work to the media in the United States at the same time as making the film. I'm sure there will be people who will support this project.
Please Support to Create the Film and Screen around the World
In order to make and work on the third film, we need funds. That's why I decided to take up crowdfunding.
I have some doubts about the idea of "making a film with money". However, if we stop now, this massive radiation exposure incident will be buried. We can't allow the victims of radiation exposure to perish in tears, so we decided to take up the challenge. That's why we have decided to take up the challenge.
By supporting our crowdfunding campaign, we are helping to tackle this problem with your help. Thank you very much for your support.
