DAY20　ニュージーランド「マオリ文化」の魅力

今日は寿里がニュージーランドの先住民族マオリの文化の魅力についてお届けします！

 

 

当たり前のことですが、国民性や価値観には、その国や地域の伝統や文化的背景が大きく影響を与えるものだと思います。
今日はその視点から、ニュージーランドの人々の温かさや、一緒にいて心地よいと感じる要因について書いてみたいと思います。

 

先日の活動報告で紹介したＡＬＴのＭ先生とのお話でも話題になったことですが、ニュージーランドは先住民族マオリの文化をとても大切にしていると感じるシーンをよく目にします。

 

 

中でも有名なのはハカと呼ばれる伝統的な踊りですね。ニュージーランドといえばラグビーが有名で、オールブラックスというチーム名は誰もが聞いたことがあると思います。

 

ニュージーランドの人々の温かさの背景には何があるのだろう？と考えた時に、マオリ文化の価値観や信念が深く関係していると感じます。

 

マオリの伝統的な考え方がニュージーランド全体の人間関係や社会の在り方に大きな影響を与えているのです。

 

そこで、マオリ族が大切にしている価値観をいくつか紹介させてください。

 

🔶 家族やコミュニティの絆を最も大切にする価値観
🔶 人を温かく迎え、敬意を持って接することが大切にされる
🔶 環境を大切にし、未来の世代のために自然を守る意識が強い
🔶 対立ではなく、お互いを尊重しながら共に生きることを大切にする
🔶 多様性を受け入れ、異なる文化や価値観を尊重する姿勢
🔶 男女は異なる役割を持つが、どちらも尊重され対等な存在という考え方

 

 

さらに、ニュージーランドは世界で最も男女平等が進んでいる国の一つ とされています。

 

その象徴として

 

✔　世界で初めて女性に参政権を認めた国（1893年）

✔ 国会議員の約50％が女性

 

さらに女性には「命を生み出す力」や「精神的なリーダーシップ」があるとされ、社会構造の中で女性の役割が重要視され、男性もそれを尊重する文化があります。

 

マオリ族のハカは男性が踊るものが一般的ですが、実は女性が踊るハカもあります。
そこには、男性と女性それぞれの強みが尊重されていることがうかがえます。

 

このような共通認識を重んじる文化があることが、日々の会話や人との関わりに与える影響は大きいですね。

 

　

共生の社会を目指して

 

マオリ文化に触れて、共生の大切さや、お互いを尊重する社会の在り方が強く印象に残りました。

 

私たちの活動は、子育てに悩んだり、困難を抱えた人や子どもたちに寄り添い、支え合える温かい社会を作ることを目指しています。

 

私たちが目指すのは、互いに尊重し合い、支え合う社会です。

 

特に、子どもたちが安心して自分らしく成長できる環境を作って行きたいです。

 

そのためには、幸福度の高い国をお手本にし、その知恵や方法を学ぶことがとても有効で自然な発想だと考えています。

DAY21: Māori Culture in New Zealand

Good morning! This is Juri! 😊

 

In my previous update, I mentioned a conversation with ALT M-sensei, and one topic that came up was how New Zealand deeply values the culture of its indigenous Māori people. I often see examples of this in my experiences.

 

One of the most famous aspects is the haka, a traditional dance. When you think of New Zealand, rugby often comes to mind, and many of you have probably heard of the All Blacks team.

 

When I reflect on the warmth of the people in New Zealand, I believe the values and beliefs of Māori culture play a deep role. The traditional Māori mindset has greatly influenced the relationships and societal structure of New Zealand.

Here are a few key values that Māori people hold dear:

 

🔶 The value of family and community bonds above all else

🔶 Warmly welcoming others and treating them with respect

🔶 A strong commitment to protecting the environment and preserving nature for future generations

🔶 Valuing coexistence by respecting each other, rather than focusing on conflict

🔶 Embracing diversity and respecting different cultures and values

🔶 A belief that men and women have different roles, but both are respected as equals

 

One of the most remarkable aspects is that New Zealand is one of the countries where gender equality has progressed the most in the world.

 

✔ In 1893, New Zealand was the first country to grant suffrage to women.

✔ Around 50% of the members of parliament are women.

 

Furthermore, women are seen as possessing “the power to give life” and “spiritual leadership,” and in this societal structure, women's roles are highly valued, with men also respecting this.

 

 

Aiming for a Society of Coexistence

 

By immersing ourselves in Māori culture, the importance of coexistence and a society based on mutual respect left a strong impression on me.

 

Our work aims to create a warm, supportive society for parents and children who are struggling or facing challenges in raising their children.

 

What we envision is a society where people respect and support one another.

 

In particular, we want to create an environment where children can grow up safely and be themselves.

 

To achieve this, we believe it’s natural and highly effective to learn from countries with high happiness levels, taking lessons from their wisdom and methods.
