今回は建物が位置する場の魅力ついて紹介させていただけたらと思います。

(昨年に開催された花見会のお写真)

 

はじめに　新谷・未来と歴史が交差する街

 

新谷（にいや）は、愛媛県大洲市に位置する地域で、豊かな自然と歴史的な背景を持つ場所です。

歴史的な背景を持ちながらも、新しい文化を取り入れる地域でもあり、

特に現在地域では、松本零士氏の漫画・アニメ『銀河鉄道999』の始発駅として知られています。

 

この作品『銀河鉄道999』は、宇宙を舞台にした壮大な物語で、多くの人々に愛されています。

新谷はその原案となった場所として、国内外のファンの聖地の１つとなっています。

また登場人物の主人公、星野鉄郎とメーテルは、共にこの地域に実際にいた人物がモデルになっています。

 

地理とアクセス

 

新谷は大洲市の東部に位置し、山々に囲まれた盆地にあります。海には面していませんが、隣接する

紅葉山が広がる風景が特徴的です。最寄りの鉄道駅はJR内子線の新谷駅で、予讃線とも接続しています。

 

 

Niiya: A regenerative town where History and the Future Intersect

 

1. Introduction

 

Niiya is an area located in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, with rich natural and historical backgrounds. It is particularly well known as the starting station for Leiji Matsumoto's manga・Anime “Galaxy Express 999.

This work is an epic story set in space and loved by many. Niiya has also become a sacred place for fans as the place where it was originally conceived.  

（The main characters, Tetsuro Hoshino and Mater, are both based on actual people who lived in the area.）

 

Geography and Access

 

Niiya is located in the side of Ozu City, in a basin surrounded by mountains. 

The landscape is characterized by the expanse of Mount Momiji. The nearest railroad station is Niiya Station on the JR Uchiko Line, which is connected to the Yosan Line.

 

It is also a pilgrimage route on Shikoku, and is visited by people on their journey to the land of Kukai.

四国・愛媛県大洲市の一角に位置する新谷（にいや）。この地は、かつての新谷藩の中心地であり、歴史と文化が色濃く残る場所です。特に、團上邸（だんがみてい）（旧新谷加藤家邸）は、時を超えて現存する武家屋敷として、その存在感を放っています。本稿では、新谷の歴史、團上邸の魅力、そして現代における新たな取り組みについて、詳細にご紹介します。

 

2. 新谷藩の歴史

 

 

新谷藩は、江戸時代初期に成立した藩で、大洲藩の支藩として始まりました。初代藩主は加藤直泰（なおやす）で、1万石が与えられ、学者、思想家などを多く抱え、独自の統治を行いました。新谷藩は、城を持たず藩庁は新谷陣屋（現・麟鳳閣）に置かれていました。

 

藩政と文化

 

新谷藩は、小藩ながらも独自の文化と伝統を育みました。藩士たちは、農業や手工業の振興に努め、地域経済の発展に寄与しました。また、茶の湯や書道、武道などの文化活動も盛んで、藩内外から多くの文化人が訪れました。

 

また逸話として、江戸では雨合羽や傘の制作をし、東京の合羽橋は、新谷藩が作る合羽を橋に掛けていたことから合羽橋とされています。（河童の伝説も後に伝承として追記されます。）

 

Niiya is located in a corner of Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku. This area was once the center of the Niiya clan, and is steeped in history and culture. In particular, the Dangami-house(former residence of the Kato family of Niiya) stands out as a samurai residence that has survived the passage of time. This paper will introduce in detail the history of Niiya, the charm of the Dangami-house, and new initiatives in the modern era.

2. History of the Shintani Clan

The Niiya han (domain) was established in the early Edo period and began as a branch of the Ozu han (domain). The first lord of the clan was Naoyasu Kato, who was given 10,000 koku and governed the clan independently, with many scholars, thinkers, and others. The Niiya clan did not have a castle, and the clan government office was located in the Niiya Jinya (present-day Rinpokaku).

 

Domain Government and Culture

 

Despite being a small clan, the Niiya clan developed its own culture and traditions. Clan members worked hard to promote agriculture and handicrafts, contributing to the development of the local economy. Cultural activities such as tea ceremony, calligraphy, and martial arts also flourished, attracting many cultural figures from within and outside the clan.

 

As an anecdote, the clan made raincoats and umbrellas in Edo, and the Kappa Bridge in Tokyo is called the Kappa Bridge because of the Kappa made by the Niiya clan that were hung on the bridge. (The legend of the kappa will also be added later as folklore.)

 

明治維新と新谷藩の終焉

 

明治維新の波が押し寄せると、新谷藩もまた時代の変化に直面しました。廃藩置県により、新谷藩は廃止され、地域は新たな行政区画に組み込まれました。しかし、藩士たちの精神や文化は、地域の人々によって受け継がれ、現在もその影響を見ることができます。

With the wave of the Meiji Restoration, the Niiya han also faced changing times. With the abolition of the han system, the Niiya han was abolished and the region was incorporated into a new administrative division. However, the spirit and culture of the clan's samurai were carried on by the local people, and their influence can still be seen today.

 

3. 團上邸の魅力

 

邸宅は、江戸時代に建てられた武家屋敷で、藩主や高位の藩士の隠居所として使用されていました。

歴史を持つこの邸宅は、明治時代に今の場所に移築され時代の変遷を経てもなお、その姿を保ち続けています。

 

建築と庭園

建築は、紅葉御殿の愛称を持ち、伝統的な日本建築の特徴を備えています。広々とした縁側、太い梁、そして庭園が訪れる人々を魅了します。かつての庭園には、四季折々の植物が植えられており、特に寒桜（かんざくら）は、冬の終わりから春の初めにかけて美しい花を咲かせます。

樹齢100年を超える、梅、桜、紅葉、があり、四季を通じて花見を楽しむことができる風雅な邸宅です。

紅葉まつりでは、参勤交代の折に京都から持ち帰った紅葉の木々が山を埋め尽くします。

 

The residence was a samurai residence built in the Edo period (1603-1867) and was used as a retreat for the feudal lord and high-ranking feudal warriors. This historical residence was moved to its current location during the Meiji period (1868-1912) and has remained unchanged through the ages.

 

Architecture and Garden

 

The architecture, nicknamed “Momiji Goten,” features traditional Japanese architectural features. The spacious porch, thick beams, and garden attract visitors. The former garden is filled with seasonal plants, especially kanzakura (cold cherry blossoms), which bloom beautifully from late winter to early spring. With plum trees, cherry trees, and autumn leaves that are over 100 years old, this elegant mansion offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy flower viewing throughout the four seasons.

During the Autumn Foliage Festival, the mountains are covered with autumn foliage trees brought back from Kyoto during the daimyo's alternating Edo residence.

團上邸は、歴史的建造物であると同時に、現代アートとの融合を図る場としても活用されています。

愛媛県内外で活躍するアーティストの創作や研究活動を推進するアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）プログラムが実施され、伝統と現代が交わる独特の空間を提供しています。

 

4.新谷における現代の取り組み

團上邸では、国内外のアーティストや研究者を招き、一定期間滞在しながら創作活動を行うアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（AIR）プログラムを展開しています。このプログラムは、歴史ある空間で新たな芸術作品を生み出す場として、多くのクリエイターから注目を集めています。

 

地域資源を活かしたビジネス

 

 

5.観光と文化の融合

 

新谷は、観光と文化の融合を目指し、さまざまなイベントやプログラムを予定します。歴史的な街並みを活かしたウォーキングツアーや、團上邸での茶の湯体験など、内子と大洲を繋げるアート。訪れる人々に新谷の魅力を伝える企画を設計中です。

 

6. 未来展望　Niiya,Ehime

 

新しいカルチャーの始発駅としての新谷

 

アニメ、アート、伝統のミックスカルチャーの素地のある地域に将来的に貢献できるように、

今後、團上邸を拠点としたプロジェクトをさらに発展させ、国内外のアーティストや研究者、旅行者、そして地元の人々が交わる場を作り上げていきます。この土地の可能性を最大限に引き出し、新たな文化の創造拠点として発信していくことが目標です。

 

ぜひ新谷という色濃い地域の魅力も発信できたらと思っています。

Dangami Residence is not only a historical building, but also a place for fusion with contemporary art. An artist-in-residence (AIR) program is implemented to promote the creative and research activities of artists active in Ehime Prefecture and beyond, providing a unique space where tradition and modernity intersect.

The Dangami Residence has developed an **Artist in Residence (AIR)** program that invites artists and researchers from Japan and abroad to stay for a certain period of time and engage in creative activities. This program has attracted the attention of many creators as a place to create new works of art in a historic space.

4.3 Fusion of Tourism and Culture

 

Shinya will schedule a variety of events and programs to integrate tourism and culture. Plans are being designed to convey the charm of Niiya to visitors, such as walking tours that take advantage of the historical townscape and a tea ceremony experience at the Danjo Residence.

We hope to contribute to the region in the future, where there is a groundwork for a mixed culture of animation, art, and samurai tradition,

We will further develop the project based at the Dangami Residence to create a place where local and international artists, researchers, travelers, and locals can mingle. Our goal is to maximize the potential of this town and to present it as a new center for cultural creation.
