活動の想い・メンバー紹介（Abhilasha Devaraj）

 

 

Dear readers,

 

Hello! My name is Abhilasha Devaraj, member of FC Nono, and today, I will be talking about how I became part of FC Nono and what I hope to create and provide a platform of opportunities for under-privileged children in India.

 

I met Nozomu (Nono for short), the founder of FC Nono, when we were working for the same company as a fresh graduate. As we both quit the same company to work elsewhere, Nono was working for an NGO in India and decided that he wanted to create an organization to provide opportunities for underprivileged kids in India through football. When he asked if I wanted to be part of his team, I immediately said yes!

 

Little background about me: I was born in Japan as an Indian national, lived in Japan and the United States. I am currently living in Japan and I am an environmental engineer, working for Amazon Japan. As a third-culture kid, the only thing I identify myself as an Indian is my passport. When Nono explained what he wanted to do for his organization, I thought this would help me understand what is going on in India more and help the kids through “FC Nono’s Goals” (link to our philosophy).

 

As an environmental engineer, in the future, I will be working with Nono regarding how we can educate the kids on climate change and sustainability. Even though India has a ton of environmental issues (ex. pollution, hygienic water, trash, etc.), India is actually promoting a lot more sustainable initiatives (a lot more than Japan!). Unfortunately, the underprivileged kids are unable to think about these, since their number one priority is to survive. Since these kids are the future of India, with FC Nono, I would like to help them understand the importance of environmental issues that are going on in India and how they can help live in a better environment for other citizens.

 

For the second crowdfunding, Nono and our team worked really hard on creating a diverse program for the kids. Our initial program started off through football. However, since they were many kids who are not 100% interested in football (I understand because I am not either!), we are providing different activities so they can be interested in working on something that fits them. We have reached out to various professionals for each project and I am excited to see these kids learn from these professionals.
